Chapter 13

She woke to find him staring at her.

“Hi.” She smiled at him.

“Sophia, I – “

She realized with a jolt of panic that he was already regretting what had happened between them. Her heart dropped into her stomach at the thought that this was it between them, and in desperation she pressed her mouth against his.

She kissed him hard, pressing her tongue against his lips until he opened them and she could slip it into his mouth. He returned her kiss, his hands tightening on her hips, until he pulled back with a soft groan.

“Sophia, we need – “

“Not yet okay?” She whispered. “Don’t think – just feel. It’s been so long for both of us. Can we not, just for tonight, make each other feel good?”

He stared into her dark eyes. “Yes.”

She kissed him again and he ran his hand down her bare back to her ass. He squeezed it, rubbing her soft skin firmly as he pressed her against his naked body. Sophia nuzzled her face into his neck and nipped lightly at the stubble-covered skin.

He groaned and she smiled to herself before running her hands over his broad back. She traced the network of scars and he frowned at the look on her face.

“What?” He whispered.

“I’m sorry that my kind did this to you.” She leaned forward and kissed one of the wide scars on his chest.

He shrugged. “It doesn’t matter.”

“It does.” She insisted. “The cruelty they – “

She shrieked loudly, her back arching, before she scrambled over Kaden’s broad body. She peered around him as Kaden clapped a hand over his chest.

“Gods be damned, little Lycan! Are you trying to give me a heart attack?”

She glared at the small orange kitten who was sitting on the bed staring innocently at her.

“Piper!” She growled at him, her eyes flashing green, and he hissed at her in reply before beginning to wash his face with one white-tipped paw.

“I thought he was a rat.” She shuddered all over before peering at the floor of the loft.

Kaden laughed. “If it makes you feel better, I’ve never seen a single rat in the hayloft. Besides, both Piper and Hogan are big enough to catch them now.”

She stared at the small kitten. “Really?”

He nodded, a little distracted by the feel of her naked breasts pushing against his back. “Aye, I watched each of them kill a rat yesterday.”

She looked around the floor of the loft uncertainly as Piper brushed up against Kaden and began to purr loudly. Her eye fell on her scarf lying next to the bed and she leaned off the bed and picked it up.

“I wondered where this had gone.”

He cleared his throat. “I uh, I found it the night of my birthday. I was going to bring it back to you.”

She smiled and pushed him forward a bit so she could examine the scars on his back. “That was nice of you.”

“I’m very nice.” He reached behind him to stroke her lean thigh as Piper and Hogan jumped off the bed.
